It's the homiest celebrity dining room you'll ever visit, this one room dining establishment known officially as Cumpa Cosimo but simply called Nettie's by locals. Chef/owner Netta Bottone operates this legendary dining room that has been in her family for more than four generations. The interior walls are decorated with the many famous faces that have come by for dinner including Jackie Onassis and more recently Gore Vidal and Mariah Carey. It's not your usual celebrity eater. Tables feature simple white or checkered tablecloths depending on the night with handpicked flowers and no salt or pepper to be scene, the chef considers it rude. Most evenings offer a straightforward menu of Italian specialties while other nights feature no menu at all, instead Nettie cooks-up whatever she feels like and almost all the time it's the best thing you'll ever taste.
High season begins with an hour-long wait on weekends unless your bellman at the Caruso or Palazzo Sasso calls in advance for special reservations. Meals begin with a bang as a plate of seven pastas is presented yielding the very best sauces Nettie has cooked-up in her 45-years as chef. Seasonal salads aren’t the best, but the selection of soup purees should not be missed. Main courses vary between grilled fish, shrimp scampi and veal scaloppini to elaborate daily specials like homemade sausages and fillets cooked to order. An array of wood fired pizzas with extravagant toppings like Alba truffles and white cheese are also worthy of a trip to the restaurant on their own. Don’t miss the homemade cheesecake and gelato that end the night on a high note.
