In a groovy mid-rise located along Chicago's Magnificent Mile, the latest remodel from James Hotels debuts a luxury boutique with secret details that keep its ever-trendy guests guessing. We came to know the James Hotels collection through their now-shuttered Scottsdale location that brought drunken pool culture to a haute clientele. James Chicago is a different breed, free of boozing heiresses and trucker hats. A pristine lobby of minimalist leather furnishings is captured in pure tones of cream and white perking with electronic DJ tracks that are barely audible by day and a lot louder by night. At times the common area feel like an Equinox with sterile furnishings and light so bright that you'd think you were undergoing a dental exam. <br /><br />A sexy staff of 20-somethings is on par with any at the area's other 5-star properties, but with an ever-hip quotient that will know and get you into the newest bars and coolest dance clubs. The property is home to David Burke's Primehouse offering a contemporary American eatery in a sedate space of leather booths and leather-wrapped chairs. For loftier spirits, J Lounge located off the main lobby is one of the city's hottest hotel bars offering nightly entertainment and set of singles unrivaled in a ten-block radius.
The Room
Crisp corridors of high ceilings and arctic temperatures are interrupted by wide doorways concealing the prize find of this urban hotel pad. Part of the Green Initiative Hotel chain, a franchise of Leading Hotels, a total of 191 guest rooms include compact entry-level and more-lavish array of penthouse suites. Smaller guest rooms include platform-style King beds with upgraded organic linens and spa-style bathrooms with rain showers and organic toiletries. Larger suites include floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Chicago skyline with Eames loungers of chocolate leather and minimalist sectionals upholstered in recycled fabric. The hotel is home to a 2,000 square foot fitness center with top-of-the-line equipment and innovative training classed by Jim Karas Personal Training. A separate spa features three treatment rooms and a wide array of exceptional services.
