The Room:

Industrial minimalism is the best way to describe Ace Hotel and Swim Club, located within a surprisingly misleading series of slick freestanding buildings with exterior entrances overlooking San Jacinto Mountain or Palm Canyon Drive. If you’ve never been to an Ace Hotel, now with locations in Portland and NYC, it’s like nothing you’ve seen before. Rooms open to sparse guest spaces lined in slated metal paneling with suspended plasma screen TV above industrial metal wardrobes. Simple wooden chairs are a nod to ‘70s design, accented with bottle of water atop a three-legged footstool. Windows are draped n heavy canvas that feels more Sahara safari than that signature Hollywood regency glamour that’s been a local staple for more than a hotel generation. Larger suites offer separate living and sleeping areas divided by even more canvas drapes with lounge area decorated in oversize leather ottomans, wheeled coffee table and Moroccan pouf pillows.
