This Portland design chain isn't your usual minimalist boutique pad of beanbag chairs and white veneer furnishings. Known for its Mad Max mix of industrial furnishings and abstract decor, the resort is a drastic departure from Palm Springs' love of Hollywood Regency. While it's immediate neighbors along Palm Canyon are anything buy edgy with a Motel 6 and Carrow's Diner, the hotel's bright white facade and central lobby swim club are a stylish oasis in an area on verge of a style shift. The interior lobby and adjoining restaurant are located within a former-diner styled in vintage furnishings mixed with minimalist influences and retro window artwork. The resort centers around an all-new swim club with outdoor bar, cafe and retro trailer luring Southern California's sexiest bodies to their favorite new desert hideaway.

The Room:
Industrial minimalism is the best way to describe Ace Hotel and Swim Club, located within a surprisingly misleading series of slick freestanding buildings with exterior entrances overlooking San Jacinto Mountain or Palm Canyon Drive. If you’ve never been to an Ace Hotel, now with locations in Portland and NYC, it’s like nothing you’ve seen before. Rooms open to sparse guest spaces lined in slated metal paneling with suspended plasma screen TV above industrial metal wardrobes. Simple wooden chairs are a nod to ‘70s design, accented with bottle of water atop a three-legged footstool. Windows are draped n heavy canvas that feels more Sahara safari than that signature Hollywood regency glamour that’s been a local staple for more than a hotel generation. Larger suites offer separate living and sleeping areas divided by even more canvas drapes with lounge area decorated in oversize leather ottomans, wheeled coffee table and Moroccan pouf pillows. Many ground level rooms offer outdoor terraces equipped with outdoor rugs and fireplace prefect for crisp desert evenings and luring back your own swimmer superstar from the resort pool.
