Beach Resort

In case you didn't know, Acapulco is in the midst of a jetset renaissance. Hip eateries and beach clubs are once more filling the days and nights of visiting jetsetters after a two-decade hiatus. Designed by Mexico's Habita Hotels, purveyors of Condessa D.F. and Habita Playa del Carmen, this revamped waterfront resort is Acapulco's first design boutique property and is already luring its share of mucho-caliente customers. Located in the vibrant Caleta neighborhood, the retro resort is just steps away from a seaside-swimming hole and beach if hanging out by the new resort pool isn't your thing.

Boca Chica Resort features a vintage '50s facade that's been a beach fixture until the Habita Group closed the property in 2007 for full refurbishment. Inside, the space has been fully reconceived by Mexican artist Claudia Fernández with lava-rock floors, white plaster walls and vintage furnishings collected from area markets. The hotel is home to a super chic eatery with sushi take-out menu as well as a soon-to-debut bar and disco that is sure to be one of the hottest in town that opens with the rest of the hotel in early June.

The Room

The hotel consists of 30 rooms and six suites arranged with mountain facing or ocean view rooms. Small yet stylish, rooms offer quirky design elements like lava-rock floors, macramé hammock and outdoor living rooms with private garden. Reminiscent of their hotels in Mexico and Playa del Carmen, luxury is sacrificed for quick design gimmicks that at times feel cold and sterile despite their visual appeal. Bathrooms are simple open-flow spaces with exposed shower with vinyl curtain and white porcelain basin with wobbly commode topped of with amenities by Dr. Bronner. Aside from Boca Chica’s pool terrace and marina, a hippy chic spa area features a fully equipped gym, several massage cabanas and therapy area. Best part of Boca Chica? The native eye candy that flock to the pool and nightclub for flirtatious fun.
