Design Resort
The most architecturally significant of any Bodrum design hotels in recent memory, Kuum Hotel & Spa opened in 2008 with a daring design by Istanbul-based Global Architecture Development via a sculptural landscape of hillside resort buildings that mimic the rippling waves of the Aegean. Hotel guests arrive down a steep driveway from the main strip to a circular motor court and stunning lobby defined by 20-foot wall of glass facing the sea with footprint of slate tiles that recede to putty-colored walls dotted attractive but unimportant abstract art.

Bungalow-style buildings stretch along a private hillside with grassy knolls and walkways leading to a massive waterfront terrace with outdoor bar, dramatic diving ledge and beach club scene that has been one of the hottest in Bodrum since opening. The Spa at Kuum features 13 treatment rooms and Turkish hamam with steam and sauna baths as well as an indoor pool kept at sultry warm temperature.

During colder shoulder months, we hate to admit that Bodrum dies from October through June, a glass-enclosed eatery with waterfront terrace contains much of the hotel action with menu of Turkish-inspired international dining throughout the day. Afterward, a waterfront beach bar picks up with DJs and light lounge scene that rages until 1am or guests begin to complain.
The Room
The guest spaces of Kuum include 66 rooms within the main hotel as well as outlying 37 apartments and evolving private residences with access to all resort amenities. Space ship chic architecture in rooms is defined by putty color floors with bold jolts of color on groovy lounge furnishings and Calder-inspired artwork. Larger suites feature open-style bathrooms with oversize soaking tubs and exposed showers better for single couples than families. All rooms feature eco-nods like grassy rooftops and water saving measures that remind of the fragile nature of this drought-prone region.
