Gastro-Hotel
In a period revival 1856 building along Barcelona's Plaza Real close to the Liceo opera house, Hotel DO: Plaça Reial follows the traditional of Catelon gastronomic hotels like Abac. Renovated in 2011, the property is well-known for its three gourmet eateries including its top La Cuina, street front La Terrassa and rooftop El Terrat with each offering its own menu chef Sergio Ruiz with a Mediterranean spin on locally-sourced Catalan ingredients. Under a series of buttressed archways, the hotel lobby is framed by a covered portico leading to a stylish lobby adorned in oak paneling, wide-plank flooring and mix of mid-centuries furnishings interspersed with the occasional chesterfield sofa and Moroccan accents. In addition to being a gastronomic hideaway, the hotel offers swimming pool, solarium and spa that are plusher than you might expect of a 18-room boutique property.
The Room
The hotel narrative of classic architecture juxtaposed with more modern furnishings is continued throughout the property’s 18-rooms that exude a residential feel. Dramatic ceilings in creamy white plaster frame French doors that open to step-out balconies overlooking the bustling plaza. Double-superior rooms are simple, luxurious spaces with brocade headboards, beam ceiling and grand bathrooms with a minimalist edge. Wide plank flooring lingers in scent under white canopy beds in larger suites that sit next to picture-perfect seating areas with honey-leather chairs and ornate tapestry carpets. All room categories feature choice of in-room fragrances, Molton Brown bath products and private access to the in-house spa.
