Design Hotel
One of the first properties in years to open within the Gothic neighborhood of Barcelona, Hotel Mercer is housed within a landmark structure that incorporates portions of the Roman walls of Barcino. Through these walls, that date back two millenniums, pass a far-more modern collection of fashionable travelers into a series of impressive lobby foyers carved out of tumbled marble with primitive archways lined in glass and polished stone. A traditional reception is flanked by a series of lounges sequestered in small alcoves and drawn from a collection of mid-century and more modern decor. An in-house eatery incorporates a stunning formal dining space with outdoor courtyard terrace. Additionally, a small tavern-style café called Vermut offers more casual dinner service as well as a stylish cocktail lounge open till midnight. Further amenities include a rooftop terrace with small dipping pool with views of the old city.
The Room
Entry-level Superior rooms are some of the better you’ll find in Barcelona within this category. Wide-plank wood floors strike a monochromatic chord with walls as historic stone deals juxtapose more modern wooden shutters and striking wooden beds tucked in sumptuous Egyptian cotton linens. With views of the interior courtyard or surrounding Gothic neighborhood, larger Deluxe and Gran Deluxe rooms include large balconies as well as open-plan bathrooms. Top-of-the-line suites are located on the upper floor with historic architectural elements exposed in the room with separated living room and bedroom configuration.
