Hotel Type
Boutique Hotel
Located in a modernist chunk of a building rising along Shoreditch High Street, Ace Hotels arrives in the UK with a bold footprint of style and amenities. For those unfamiliar of Shoreditch, the area lays in East London in what was once an industrial hub home to Karl Marx yet just a short ride from the financial center and our favorite London City airport. Visitors arrive to a larger than expected lobby defined by floor to ceiling windows and communal living room that doubles as coffee crash pad by day and fashionable cocktail scene by night. The property infuses British design talent in signature spaces like the main floor bar that was designed by artist Max Lamb and on-site gallery that rotates up-and-coming local artists. Square Mile Coffee Roasters assumes the on-site espresso scene with brasserie-style eatery by the chefs behind Bistrotheque. Further perks lend a local feel to the hotel like Hattie Fox floral shop and The Basement - a cabaret-style bar with underground performances and live events.
The Room
With 258 rooms, Ace Hotel Shoreditch offers a mini-community within the property similar to installments in New York, Seattle and Portland. Perks like 24-hour room service, on-site fitness area and bike rental lends itself well to those more familiar with luxury than design hotels. Entry-level rooms feature lofty ceiling with walls of glass surrounded by white walls and dark ceiling. Much of the décor is a mix of stylish mid-century furnishings and built-in décor of side tables, floppy headboards and wall units arranged in arty magazines and accoutrement like vintage radios, record players and guitars. Larger suites feature larger living and bedroom layout with upgraded furnishings, original artwork and select antique pieces.
