Hotel Type

Luxury Design Hotel

On a side street that connects the Champs-Elysées to Avenue Montaigne, Hotel Marignan came to our attention after several Plaza Athenee purists were looking for a hotel alternative during renovations. Essentially a removed neighbor, this non-chain hotel was once a private residence and palace before scooped-up by Groupe Richard and Nathalie Richard who selected French designer Pierre Yovanovitch to oversee refurbishment. The result is a triumphant luxury design hotel and rare French-owned property in a city increasingly dominated by non-French conglomerates. Its manicured façade of white plaster is trimmed in black iron balconies and regal entrance that still feels very much the private residence. Inside, old and new find a harmony among black and white marble floors that seems to add life to stark white walls and contemporary décor mixed with mid-century design. Monotone silhouettes contain free-form seating areas in the lobby, leading to a small bar lounge and more playful dining room with seasonal French menu. Connecting the property is an opulent staircase traced in stained glass windows and terrazzo floors that leads from lobby to guest rooms.

The Room

Unlike any you’ll find in the 8th, Hotel Marignan is home to 45 guest rooms and 5 upper-level suites with views that include the Eiffel Tower from the highest floor. Entry-level rooms maximize sophisticated Parisian style with creamy white walls inlaid with walnut and maple detailing. Personalized details from Yovanovitch include one-off lamps suspended over side tables, contemporary artwork and in-room espresso machines. Bathrooms are cocooned in veiny limestone with double sinks adorned with Ex Voto toiletries that complete the high-end apartment feel.
