Luxury Hotel

One of the world’s most iconic hotels, Peninsula Hong Kong debuted in 1928 as one of the first modern luxury palaces in Asia. Situated in Kowloon, its imposing façade with period building and newer high-rise tower is protected by an in-house fleet of Rolls Royce.  Grand arrivals usually begin at the airport with dedicated customs line and bypass that leads to a prompt arrival along its porte-cochere attended by uniform staff that include those employed by the property since the 1950s. Inside, a sweeping lobby lined in creamy marble floors is capped in vaulted ceilings and ornate colonnades with staircases leading to the upper level dining rooms and shopping mezzanine located along the basement and atrium levels with shops like Chanel and Visvim. The crowd is a mix of refined in-house guests, businessmen and those checking the property off their travel bucket lists with camera, backpack and sneaker-ed feet. Dining options include Cantonese Spring Moon with daily Dim Sum offering, Gaddi’s French eatery, Felix with its more Mediterranean twist and Imasa with its omakase sushi presentations. The in-house spa is one of the best in the city with Eastern-inspired body and facial treatments in addition to a fitness center and 8th floor pool overlooking the Hong Kong skyline.

The Room

While the location is ideal for those looking for a taste of old Hong Kong and shopping at the nearby Harbour City, many of the city’s trendier restaurants and nightlife are a cab ride away on Hong Kong Island. A massive hotel property, entry-level Superior rooms are located in the original building with eastern décor and built-in technology amenities that take a bit of time to navigate. Rooms vary in lower room categories between neighborhood and street views or of the inner hotel courtyard and its cavalcade of Rolls Royce. Better yet, the Grand Deluxe Harbour View Rooms overlook Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island with Suites that offer a more sophisticated décor of L-shaped sofas accented in polished wood. Top of the line suites include the Marco Polo with its two-bedroom layout of refined antiques, crystal chandeliers and decorative fireplaces or the Peninsula Suite that sits atop the hotel’s newer tower with outdoor terrace, private gym, screening room and 10-seat dining room with adjoining kitchen.
