Book for Art-Basel: The Edition Miami

September 23, 2014 10.46 AM

Closer to the actual Art-Basel site at Miami Beach Convention Center than the ever-popular Soho Beach House, EDITION Miami Beach arrives late-November to the former Seville Hotel with a 294-room hotel in collaboration with George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg crowned in 26 residences designed by architect John Pawson. EDITION is a unique hotel partnership the collides the design and style attributes of partner Ian Schrager with the management savvy of Marriott Hotels that operate the property. EDITION has had a mixed run since its inception that began in Honolulu where a management dispute resulted in the inaugural property terminating its management agreement with the fledgling chain. Since then, their openings in Istanbul and London have been unequivocal hits with plans to conquer New York, LA Abu Dhabi and Bangkok on the horizon.

Ian Schrager is no newcomer to Miami, having created iconic Delano that’s still a luxury standard as well as nearby Shore Club that both operate under Morgans Hotel Group. EDITION Miami Beach will include a concept eatery by NYC-chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten as well as a re-conceived ocean lounge that recreated a classic waterfront cocktail scene that’s the only of its kind in Miami Beach. Apt at keeping people entertained, Schrager has also designed an entire entertainment area with bowling alley, ice-skating rink and flagship nightclub.  Outside, two separate pools offer separate lounge and bar scene and full-service beach club that’s one of the largest on this stretch of Collins. As far as room interiors, expect a muted silhouette of creamy white and raw wood tones with dramatic white drapes and serine bathrooms with rates from $50 per night " and elevated $975 per night during Art-Basel Week. While we still prefer a room at the Soho House or Setai, EDITION Miami Beach competes more on par with properties like The Metropolitan, The James and SLS for the grown-up party/spa crowd.
