Interrupting the stillness of April and May slow season, the bar at Hotel Sube ignites the port area of St. Tropez with a lively cocktail scene popular with locals. Situated on the second floor or a harbor-front shopping block, the bar is part of a not-so-chic hotel that attracts frugal travelers who roll their own luggage from the bus stop a few blocks away and then hit the daily happy hour with its free paprika chips and soggy olives. The bar is decorated in sticky, dark wooden furnishings with ornate settees and cozy bistro tables arranged on a small balcony facing the sea. A mix of pirate ship décor and camera totting couples looking for the sunset, the bar scene is best visited during early and late summer months when everything else in town is either closed or empty.
The bar peaks during April and May for its late-night cocktail scene and then again in September and October as the area’s hottest bar and lounges come to a close.
Cozy hotel bar overlooking St. Tropez port is one of the few cheap thrills to be had in the seaside resort town.
