Muted luxury with a posh following, if you're familiar with Cipriani outposts in New York or London you may be a bit surprised at the brashness of its Porto Cervo location. Occupying the main restaurant space of Billionaire, Porto Cervo's premiere nightclub venue, the restaurant is an opulent indoor/outdoor dining room of terrazzo tiles piled with oriental rugs and funky collection of slip covered regency furnishings that show their exposure to the elements. Visitors enter via the main nightclub or more dignified street entrance with tile roof, smooth stucco walls and Moroccan lanterns lighting the night sky. While a cliché, the restaurant does attract its share of billionaires and the super-rich from across the globe looking for a dinner-cum-dance venue overflowing with rich and beautiful people.
The Food
For many it’s the most expensive meal they will ever eat. A leather-bound menu with fine grain paper is presented containing a daily menu that stretches over two pages. Differing from many fine restaurants, there is a lot of variety on the Cipriani menu including a lengthy appetizer selection of fresh crab claws, steak tartare and seafood salad with grilled octopus. The pasta course is an indulgence with delicate raviolis, lobster penne and stuffed cannelloni that serve Italy proud. By the time the main courses arrive most guests are thoroughly satiated, try for something lighter like the grilled whitefish or fluffy chicken scaloppini served with button mushrooms. Dessert includes a various baked tortes and tiramisu in addition to sorbets and a wicked cookie plate.
