The Scene:
A familiar name to Westerners, the Russians have an even more prolific relationship with this House of Crystal dating back to the original glass factories of various Russian Tsars. Located in the former Soviet Chemist No. 1, the space was formerly the top Russian pharmacy opened by decree of Peter the Great. Today it's a potion of posh as Baccarat sets up shop with an elaborate boutique, lounge and dining room designed by Phillipe Starck. It's the second installment of the eatery flagship by Baccarat, with the original making its mark in Paris early 2002. Visitors arrive to a ground floor Baccarat boutique home to the complete retail collection, noticeably larger than just crystal, with watches and china and even sunglasses. A dramatic staircase, worthy of a Grand Duchess, rises amongst stone columns and ornate cornice ceiling. Upstairs are the lounge and dining room infused with Starck's signature gilded touches like tufted-leather Chippendale chairs, opulent oversize mirrors and dramatic Baccarat chandeliers that are the real scene stealers.

The Food:
French chefs David Desseaux and David Hemmerlé present a modern a French menu infused with traditional Russian specialties. Emmerle earned his reputation in Carré Blanc, known for his avant-garde creations and organic ingredients that are even harder to come by in central Russia. Appetizers include a dramatic presentation of Caviar served on hand-etched Baccarat crystal. Signature main dishes include salmon marinated in a light homemade horseradish sauce, slow-cooked lamb-for-two and minced liver served with grilled vegetables. After dinner the lounge comes alive with international DJs like David Vendetta spinning mellow mood music till closing.
