  • The Scene:

From the 63rd floor of a golden high-rise, French prodigy Alain Ducasse presides over Vegas' version of the royal court with a grandiose white dining room with spiral staircase and whimsical 15,000-piece hand-blown chandelier. Designer-Patrick Jouin's presents an eccentric vision of the modern penthouse supper club with one of the best views in Vegas. Aside from the open-air patio with jaw-dropping views and suicide balcony, the crowd is an odd-mix of sophisticated American urbanites and comped-casino guests wearing corduroy-blazers with suede elbow patches. If you're not looking for the whole-meal experience, MIX's adjacent lounge features all the ambiance of the restaurant with a darker color-palette with floor-to-ceiling faux brown leather, stunning views an open-air and wall-to-wall singles seven days a week.

  • The Food:

The bourgeoisie-inspired menu presents tongue-twisting French faire for Black Card carrying jetsetters who snarl and grimace towards the waiter’s explanation of steak tartare and foie gras. The menu blends modern French and American dishes with market-fresh ingredients and one-of-a-kind recipes. Appetizers include potato gnocchi with mushrooms, foie gras accented with date chutney and a $150 caviar service presented on ice-block with sterling silver tray. Entrees include lobster curry, beef tenderloin with black truffle sauce and various homemade pastas available with shaved truffles ($45 a shave).

  • Last Word

It’s hard to take food seriously in Vegas, especially with some of the best views and people watching in town. Although China Grill Management, which is essentially a chain, operates the restaurant it’s the best option in Vegas for upscale dining with (or on) an edge.
