  • The Scene:

Located within the Opus Montreal, the space doesn't feel like an ordinary hotel restaurant with its bourgie design of black and white décor that puts a modern spin on art nouveau architecture. Koko incorporates blue-blood design elements like Moooi's burnt Chippendales and signature horse lamp with tulip-shaped chairs in the grand salon and a separate outdoor terrace open for summertime dining. After dinner revelers flock to the adjoining lounge with its cushy banquettes upholstered in oriental-inspired fabrics and chintz pillows. The crowd is a collection of socially strategic hipsters that dine at 9pm and linger till the wee-hours of morning grooving to DJs spinning Kings of Leon and MGMT.

  • The Food:

A more east than west global menu begins at a meticulous white table lined in high-end porcelain and sleek stemware. Dinner begins with appetizers like beef tartare with a kick of mint and Thai basil, pan-fried shrimp and pork dumplings or crispy calamari with Japanese eggplant served by a hipster staff. Edamame with vegetable chips or Asian field salad with coconut-lime dressing offers a limited selection for die-hard vegetarians. Main course is a mash-up of Szechwan-style chicken with water chestnuts, grilled lamb in curry sauce or pan-seared fillet with ginger butter. Fish eaters discover an equally yummy selection of yellow curry grouper, salmon in stewed vegetables and scallops with fennel salad.

  • Last Word

Outside the mainstay of Old Montreal nightlife, Koko Restaurant and Bar is an urban supper club and lounge that offers a cutting edge design space for social dinners and late night rendezvous’.
