  • The Scene:

Located in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City, Tonalá Veinte refers to the street number and name this prized residential eatery finds itself between the streets of Entre Insurgentes and Durango. Built in 1912, this former-residence is arranged within a series of drawing rooms, dining hall and garden terrace that can host up to 50 guests per night. Walls are scattered with well-lined bookshelves of Spanish masters, taxidermy trophies of days gone by and basement performance space available for private soirees and concerts. Each room is majestically lit with elaborate chandelier pieces amongst period wood paneling and mosaic tile detailing that make a visit worthy of its food and architectural accolades.

  • The Food:

An international menu of daily creations and seasonal influences that keep in mind seasonal produce markets and meat purveyors entertain a nightly entourage of foreign foodies and locals out for a fancy night on the town. Foreigners tend to be the under-dressed of the two, arriving rather humbly from their St. Regis or W-digs to a stately nightly menu of rich mushroom risottos, Kobe tartare and truffle pasta that continues on to even tastier presentations of rack of lamb with basil green beans and baked fish dishes that feel more like a Parisian bistro than Mexico City eatery.

  • Last Word

Don’t miss out on dessert, which is just as continental as the menu with its English trifle of seasonal fruits of chocolate mousse served with homemade wafers.
