It's so hard to get into Christine's on an idyllic winter ski day that we almost don't want to write about it. Located at the Solar Coaster Express on the Blackcomb side of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, Christine's takes a bit of walking to get to in chunky ski boots, through the maze of buffet eaters looking for any possible place to sit and eat. Past the tough hostess with almost always full reservation book, a glass-enclosed dining room overlooks Blackcomb Mountain with bistro style seating at simple table tops with corner bar that can deliver a bottle of Pinot Grigio or Merlot faster than any other on the mountain.
The Food
We don’t encourage drunk skiing, so luckily the gondola at Solar Coaster allows for reverse loading back down to the village, which can be nausea-inducing for more liberal drinkers. But drink away on a great selection of Canadian wines and California reds that mix great with the sweet potato fries, homemade soups and sensational Cobb salads for appetizer. Main course is a hearty European style assortment of entrees of grilled meat, great hamburger, and hefty chicken platters served in edgy porcelain plates with perky service that you get to know on a first name basis by your second visit.
Last Word
Make a reservation at least a day in advance, if not much sooner if arriving during peak holidays. Don’t hesitate to pass the hostess a $20 on the down-low when no one is looking if in urgent need.
