Perhaps the most glamorous Mexico City restaurant of any western conglomerate to date, sorry Jean-Georges, Cipriani makes its grand debut as the city's flagship Italian eatery in the Polano neighborhood. The restaurant maintains its dapper design pedigree of previous locations in London and New York with wood-paneled walls and signature bentwood chairs with touches of Mexico City's numerous historic details. A small martini bar captures patrons in waiting, as well as a generous dining room that offers year-round lunch and dinner that's the city's newest hotspot.
The Food
The history of Cipriani begins with Harry’s Bar in Venice, that’s unrelated to the Venice luxury hotel by the same name. The restaurant group expanded over the years to include outposts in London and New York as well as Abu Dhabi and Porto Cervo. Its menu maintains many of the original items of its Venice home, best started with a house Bellini that was invented by the restaurant founder. Appetizers of prosciutto crudo, baby artichokes salad and grilled polenta never fail to impress followed by second course portions of veal cannelloni, vegetarian risotto primavera or daily ravioli special. Main course maintains longtime staples like Scampi Thermador, signature club sandwich and fillet of sole cooked to perfection.
