Undoubtedly the grandest restaurant in Budapest, Onyx is one of two eateries to be awarded a 1-Sat Michelin rating in the Hungarian capital. Opened in early 2007, the restaurant occupies a well-known space formerly home to Kis Gerbeaud. Named after the elaborate onyx stonework throughout the restaurant, designer Zoltan Varro pens a sophisticated series of rooms accented in neo-baroque undertones of gold leaf and ornamental style with stucco walls and elaborate chandelier displays. Marble busts, Louis XIV chairs and architectural design elements create a unique space worthy of its celeb and foodie following.

The Food

Forgotten traditional recipes and local flavors have been rethought by chef Szabina Szulló who creates three different, unique 5-7-course degustation menus. Starters include Lobster salad with tomato variations, goose liver torte with brioche and sautéed scallop with cauliflower. Main course is more complex with saddle of venison with beetroot, tenderloin with ravioli stuffed with beef shoulder and suckling pig served over two courses with quail egg and red cabbage salad.

Last Word

Chef Szabina Szulló orchestrates grand menu from regal, aristocratic dining room popular with celebs and visiting elite.
