For those unaware of legendary The Dutch that's brought gourmet cuisine to Soho's flannel-clad foodie warriors, chef Andrew Carmellini creates a South Beach installment of his famous eatery likely to irk NYC purists and indulge a new generation of trendy Miami diners. The restaurant makes its home inside the W South Beach within a rustic tavern-style space of honed-white marble, reclaimed wood floors and prominent raw bar that showcases Carmellini's incredibly trained staff. In a city that likes its installments of Mr. Chow, Cecconi's and Zuma - this spin-of eatery offer a more indigenous Soho style by Meyer Davis Design with industrial lanterns and glare of an actual wood-fire oven burning away in the background.
The Food
Chef Andrew Carmellini leads an all-day eatery that transitions from morning diner-style bacon and egg dishes to more elaborate breakfast burrito stuffed with chorizo and hazelnut-crusted French toast with on-site bakery whipping-up breads, cakes and pastries throughout the day. Lunch is a more lavish affair with sheep’s milk ricotta served with fresh bread, crab salad with green-goddess dressing and Korean-style ribs to start followed by Cuban sandwich, brioche burger and signature fired chicken. Nightly supper is a continuation of the all-day theme with quirky twists like a blue crab pizza with zucchini, pappardelle with lamb ragu and short rib mole with roasted apple.
Last Word
It’s currently the toughest reservation in Miami, but walk-ins are always welcome and larger parties (8 or more) should always inquire about the availability of the private dining room.
