The glass doorway seems to transport you from the 7th Arrondissement in Paris to somewhere that could be in Stockholm or Copenhagen, but you’re actually inside the very French Restaurant David Toutain. A spare dining room is laid in wide-plank barn boards with walls adorned in petrified wood and collection of custom earthenware that extends to the tabletops. A communal table strides its center, offering seating for singles up to six guests. Upstairs, a more intimate salon offers a serine setting for private parties and chef’s dinners that are some of the best in Paris dining today.

The Food

Normandy-born chef David Toutain came onto the Paris scene previously at Agape before launching this 21-seat flagship eatery offering midweek lunch and daily dinner. The menu offers varying courses with dishes like white asparagus with egg white foam, beef tartare infused with seasonal summer strawberries, Spanish mackerel with floral accent or white fish set splendidly in summer peas and chervil.

Last Word

Normandy chef channels simple, seasonal cuisine and air of Scandinavia at boutique dining room in the 7th.
