Enjoying one of the best waterfront locations in Cape Town, Bungalow is the be-seen social sanctuary of summertime. Midway between Clifton and Camp’s Bay, a long road leads to this all-white beach club compound that doubles as sunset lounge bar and all-day dining room. The crowd includes a mix of connected locals, wide-eye tourists and showy visitors that vie for a spot along the outdoor terrace where bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and Rose pop with almost minutely precision.
The Food
We often arrive to Bungalow fully famished after a day at the beach, opting for steak tartare or beef carpaccio that’s better than the calamari or prawn cocktail. Salads are often shared, arriving in oversize bowls and best ordered for one even with two people eating. Heartier dishes include a great daytime burger bar with tuna and crayfish options, full sushi bar and grilled meats from lamb to chicken and steak. Our favorite, however, is the seafood platter best ordered grilled with its white fish, prawns, langoustines and calamari.
Last Word
Summers feature weekend DJs, well-known New Year’s Eve party and endless alcohol-induced merriment.
