In a former Darlinghurst nightlife romp known more for fist-pumping rockers than 1am caviar service, a new lounge exists that fills a missing niche in Sydney. Part hipster and part thoroughbred posh, 77 is firstly a beautiful DJ lounge bar and pub with low ceiling exaggerated in red neon that swirls above a mirrored bar. The space is arranged in booths trimmed in bold nail head detailing with drinker’s bar and billiards area. By 1am, a DJ has taken control of the crowd that until then works its way through a menu of fried garlic, cheeseburgers, spicy currywurst and a selection of Russian caviar.
Among DJs anthems and billiards antics, rich and poor converge over currywurst and caviar at Sydney’s 77.
Arrive before 11pm for more of a gastro-pub vibe, after 11pm for more of a DJ dance bar. But, just make sure you’re through the door by 1am to avoid being shut out by local liquor laws.
