Speeding from Punta's La Barra to Jose Ignacio, it's easy to pass-up the hidden route that links the Posada de Piedra to the sea. Merging from the highway to a downright rural unpaved road, the landscape turns from solitary dunes to rolling hills as the posada's stacked-stone facade comes into view. The rolling estate is an eclectic mix of quarry stone and cubist architecture set in a vast green horse pasture typical of many local equestrian estates. <br /><br />Less of a lobby and more of a private living room, the inn is essentially a large private house offering six separate bedrooms and manicured grassy area with pool and tranquil spa. Interior spaces are decorated with antique pieces mixed with newer modern furnishings arranged on ebonized hardwood floors. High ceiling and large-pane windows frame sweeping views of the pastureland and distant ocean horizon. During off-season the hotel is often entirely vacant, except for the lone caretaker that ensures of morning breakfast and checkout. During high season it's an exclusively hideaway of artsy visitors looking for a cozy escape from Jose Ignacio lively beach scene.
The Room
Like a chic commune, guests should expect heavy interaction when not sequestered in one of six guest rooms. Standard suites are the entry-level guest room, each of the four offering high ceiling with canopy beds and whitewashed color scheme. Antique doors open to small shaded patios with two chairs and table for morning dining. The larger junior suite offers a larger living area with slipcover sofa and club chairs, as well as a larger patio with built-in banquette and better views. The Master Suite, the largest of the rooms, is like a mini-apartment spread over two separate living areas with stacked fireplace and cozy daybed for afternoon naps. A double basin sink with marble detailing is also more luxurious than the standard white-tile bathrooms of the other suites.
