Mountain Resort

Located 40-minutes from Park City, the Sundance Resort was created by Robert Redford in 1969 and has since become one of the most-acclaimed resorts in the area. The middle-of-nowhere setting is host to skiing and Sundance Film Festival in the winter with hiking and mountain climbing in the summer. The hotel exterior is classic stacked-log with impressive wooden buttresses supporting lofty ceilings and large-pane windows. The interior décor mixes traditional American antiques with sturdy Craftsman-inspired furnishings that uncompromising in style.

Tucked at the base of Mt. Timpanogos, the resort features three equally acclaimed gourmet restaurants, cozy bar and Native American spa offering spiritual scrubs and massages. An in-house arts institute hosts annual parties and screening during the Sundance Film Festival, as well as yearly culinary events and conferences. The resort and its series of freestanding guest rooms are interconnected by outdoor walkways and paths that are often snowed-over in winter, so think warm clothes and not Hollywood glamour despite the very-famous crowd of Redford-friends usually hanging out in one of the restaurants or hotel bar.

The Room

After a weekend stay its decided that the resort most reminds one of Redford’s film, A River Runs Through It. The resort is seamlessly interwoven into the mountainside through a series of freestanding log-cabin buildings and wide-open spaces overlooking sweeping mountain vistas. Accommodations are quite varied with entry-level standards and studios being far more compact than the Sundance Suites, offering cozy living rooms with kitchenettes and quarried fireplaces overlooking furnished private decks.. Mountain Lofts are even larger with spa-style bathrooms and full kitchens that are large enough to host small parties and private soirees, before sneaking up a ladder that leads to a secret loft bedroom. All rooms are decorated in a homey mountain style with colorful Native American artwork and eclectic traditional American décor. Catering to a more specific demographic, the hotel also offers several two-and-three bedroom homes in A-frame and pinewood styles located in and around the main resort. Homes feature massive living areas, some with big stone fireplaces and three-story picture windows, large enough to entertain the entire family or a complete production studio during Januray’s Sundance Festival.
