A short 10-minutes from Park City, the Stein Eriksen Lodge is located in a charming Alpine-style community of cafés and chairlifts at the base of Deer Valley. Named after Olympic skier Stein Erickson, who happens to be the ski director of Deer Valley, the hotel mixes Scandinavian details with Bavarian-architecture to create one of the most exclusive lodges in the region. The lobby features stacked-stone fireplaces, tailored rustic decor and soaring ceilings intersected by natural wooden beams.

The resort is comprised of several freestanding and interconnected lodges, housing Glitretind restaurant serving regional American cuisine and Troll Hallen lounge with hip apres-ski scene of cocktails and light snacks. An in-house spa offers full-body services from pedicures to facials and includes a well-equipped fitness center of newer cardio machines, free-weights and Pre-Cor machines with individual TV monitors. An outdoor pool with hot tub is heated throughout the year, connected to luxurious changing rooms with sauna and steam facilities. Other perks include a ski valet that handles everything from waxing to white-glove cocoa service and babysitting service that accepts even the brattiest of children.

The Room

Bright and minimally decorated hallways lead to a series of 175-guest rooms and 67 suites. Standards feature a one-room design with single-pane French doors and stack-stone fireplaces with velvet-upholstered club chairs or compact sofa. Firewood is delivered to all guest rooms by a concierge service that doesn’t mind coming back to actually start the fire. Cell Service is unpredictable in Deer Valley, but the wireless Internet service and integrated phone system is reliable for business travelers looking to remain connected. Bathrooms offer a lighter-than-usual selection of marble and natural stones incorporated in the shower and around sunken-bathtubs outfitted with Molton Brown toiletries. Larger suites are designed over one-floor with full kitchen and cozy living area accented by crafty artwork and the sporadic Gustavian antique. New for 2007 are a selection of junior suites that lack the full kitchen but include outdoor hot tubs and spacious private decks.
