Hotel Type

Luxury Boutique

A quick look at the website reveals Dana to be more than just a boutique luxury hotel, but a Chicago lifestyle. The webpage is dominated by an edgy 30-something rocker-slash-urbanite who's either really upset about her blunt bangs or on her way to a Cure concert. The hotel is named after Chicago's oldest hotel that occupied the location since 1891, before being torn-down and built anew.

Visitors arrive to an airy lobby of cosmopolitan creams and beigey-brown colors tones with office style check-in and oversize artwork of yet another woman with blunt-bangs similar to the one we saw on the website, albeit this one with a tattoo. Wavy wood paneling offers a Bottega Veneta-like texture to the walls ignited by loads of natural light and electronic spa music keeping an air of cool. Separating itself from the competitive local hotel market, Dana sports perks like a private 24-hour gym, Spa at Dana, and in-house concierge that promises to be the most connected in all of Chicago.

For entertainment the hotel is home to Ajasteak, an Asian steakhouse along the lines of Buddakan, offering organic cuisine and traditional yakitori kitchen. Up on the roof is where most of the nightlife happens, home to Vertigo Sky Lounge, offering skyline views and sexy late-night glimpse at real-life Danas letting loose to DJ jams and pop anthems.

The Room

From the owners of the Indigo Hotel, this high-rise luxury boutique offers spacious entry-level guest rooms that are cushier than your local W but stop short of matching the luxury of the Peninsula or Four Seasons. A cheery beige and brown color palette seems to be at the heart of Dana, with edgy concrete ceiling offsetting the more traditional cherry wood-floors, ebonized furnishings and oversize sofa or club chair. A plethora of complimentary services include free breakfast of muffins and pastries, in-room wine reserves, and European coffee makers that stop just short of a real espresso. Bathrooms are a design medley of mosaic glass and porcelain tiles framing wide rain showerheads big enough for two. With prices starting under-$300, Dana proves to be a great value that you won’t regret in the morning
