Along one of those perfect Paris streets where you fight back thoughts of running away from your American life, a secret passageway of overgrown shrubbery conceals a grand 3-story Haussmann-style mansion with white-painted shutters and rod-iron detailing formerly owned by the Hermes family now known as Hotel Particulier. Free of Paris virgins or concierge churning touristy restaurant reservations, the lobby maintains the feel of a private home but with in-the-know guests in head-to-boot heel Rick Owens with the hottest restaurant on speed dial who often stay weeks at a time.
The first-floor salon, or lobby, still lends the feel of Hermes when it was a family home but now with a modern tone arranged in mid-century furnishings like the Arne Jacobsen Egg chair. Through the windows, the outdoor garden designed by Louis Benech is enjoyed throughout a communal dining area that hosts morning breakfast as well as special dinner on request. Recently the hotel debuted a new postage-stamp size cocktail bar call Le Tres Particular with nightly handful of lounge lovers from 5-11pm on weekends.
The Room
The oh-la-la lobby that dazzles continues into hallways with wide-plank hardwood floors topped with exotic animal skins and pinstriped trim. Heavy wood doors open to Suites that feature one-of-a-kind wallpaper with period light fixtures, tufted-leather headboards and dramatic bathrooms lined in marble tiles with soaking tubs and glass walls. Hedonists should check-into the loft-suite sequestered in the attic with spiral staircase and open-floor architecture accented with freestanding clawfoot tub and gallery-worthy artwork.
