Boutique Hotel

Until The Wit, the best thing we had to say about Doubletree were those addictive chocolate cookies that became part of their moniker in the late-90s. It's aimed to be a W-buster and Doubletree's first foray into the luxury boutique market. Located along Chicago's historic State Street, this 27-story glass and steel architectural high-rise offers a stylish and convenient hotel destination promising day to night activities and entertainment even for those that dare never leave to explore the neighborhood.

Guests arrive to bright and airy spaces that maximize the floor-to-ceiling views of the Chicago skyline while making the most of modern wood-veneer furnishings and still-stiff sofas that matches aqua green upholstery with pink pillow. The hotel is a cornucopia of hipness, beginning with mornings at the glass-enclosed gym followed by an organic facial at Spa @ the Wit. Evenings are spent dining at Todd Stein's Cibo Matto ("crazy food") 2nd floor Italian eatery or Chef Bradley Manchester's State and Lake before hitting Roof, its 27th floor rooftop with fire pit lounge and VIP table with see-through floor suspended above the city.
The Room

Your typical downtown high-rise hotel comprises of 256-guest room and 56 upgraded suites that come with their own fully equipped kitchens and 4-seat dining tables surrounded in skyline views. We usually cringe when national chains like Hyatt and Doubletree attempt more lofty design luxury, but the Wit actually does a good job with stylish club chairs and attractive sofas clad in fabric that won’t make you itch halfway through an in-room movie. We’d prefer wood floors, but the plush velvety wool carpeting contrasted by creamy drapery and stunning views of the city leaves our palette pleased. Bathrooms feature familiar counter-mounted porcelain white sinks and retro mosaic tile that will likely feel old before its time.
