Visitors looking to book a trip to Venice are often confounded as to booking into on of the age-old luxury palaces like Cipriani or try-out one of the ever evolving options of boutique hotels like Sina Hotel's Centurion Palace. Located in the 19th Century Palazzo Genovese, once a private canal-front residence, the structure has been reconfigured into a stylish boutique hotel by Italian designer Guido Ciompi. The hotel is located in one of our favorite neighborhoods in Venice, an area that feels like people actually live in it, next to the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute between Punta della Dogana and Peggy Guggenheim Museum.
Arrival to the Centurion from the canal comes through a grand glass foyer under a rustic beam ceiling vividly framing a grand chandelier above crisscross marble floors and modernist collection of white leather settees. Towering brick walls give way to moodier spaces with black graphite floors and scarlet red walls that visually emphasize the bold white vases and meticulous arrangement of firewood and avant-garde floral arrangements. The hotel is home to Antinoo's Lounge and Restaurant with all-white indoor dining room facing a gangplank-style terrace facing the canal for warmer weather dining yet to find its groove.
The Room
A total of 50 rooms including 8 junior suites and 4 suites individually designed by Ciompi are contained within unique architectural spaces varying between with raving features like barrel ceiling, marble fireplaces, bi-level design and step-out terraces with Grand Canal views to rival the best. Prepare the eyes for colorful spaces of mostly-red or salmon-colored walls lined in silk fabric with ornate chandeliers and mix of natural flooring and modern Pucci-inspired carpets. Creative design elements like platform bed on zebrawood plank or floating white staircase in select suite offer a drama element that’s unique to the hotel and chain in general. An antic fitness center is good enough to break an elipical or treadmill sweat, especially with its low roofline and compact windows flanked by LCD TV display.
