Hotel Type

Luxury Design Hotel

With more stylish hotels per square mile than any other American city, NYC hotels are sometimes best selected by neighborhood over name. Located on the ever quaff Upper East Side, The Surrey hotel offers a more residential hotel experience with the added amenities of a trendy eatery and attractive lobby bar being within the same address. A storied façade built in 1926 as a residence hotel; the Surrey began as a temporary home to New York visiting elite like JFK and Bette Davis. Interior designer Lauren Rottet, who was careful to preserve the richness of history while creating a visual palette to survive passing trends and moods, re conceived the Surrey into the townhouse-inspired hotel it is today.

Visitors arrive to a personal doorman entry and into a glossy white lobby with marble floors and oriental carpet with modern artwork and ornate check-in counter of well groomed, articulate staffed. From 12pm-12am the lobby is home to Bar Pleiades, an art deco space of tufted walls, white banquettes and silvery graffiti detail on black barstools and chairs named after the Paris eatery that defined much of the 1970s. Adjacent to the bar is 1-Star Michelin Café Boulud in a stunning space that maintains a clientele that's refreshing local and dressed to the nines even on a school night.

The Room

Despite being built as a residential hotel, entry-level guest room called Salons are amply-sized at 320-square feet with printed carpeting, whimsical draped and oversize bed next to comfy seating arrangement with neighborhood views. Select salons also offer private terraces, fireplaces and large bathrooms with white statuary marble and chrome-footed vanities proudly displaying toiletries by Laura Tonatto of Milan. Suites are multi-room spaces with small kitchens and dining table only outdone by the Penthouse that come with all the above and a 1,100 sq. ft. wraparound terrace with glimpses of Central Park.
