Hotel Type

Design Hotel

America's favorite boho design hotel, Ace Hotels has managed to open much-hyped sequels in Seattle and Palm Springs saving their best work to date for New York. Their iconic laid-back coolness comes from a meticulous design aesthetic that merges the best up-and-coming architects and designers with an eco-aesthetic of recycled furnishings and even found objects in the former-Breslin Hotel. The lobby features a hallmark sticker mural of graffiti snapshots collected by Bronx-based artist Michael Anderson depicting the NYC street movement. The offbeat mosaic brings a bohemian charm to the boutique property, reversing years of sterility and minimalism associated with stylish and affordable hotels.

The hotel is home The Breslin Bar and Dining Room, recently crowned with a Michelin star, under the stewardship of The Spotted Pig owners Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield. A more causal coffee bar and sandwich shop provide all-day bites and morning espresso fueling. Added perks of Project No. 8A and installment of Opening Ceremony provide the hippest shops in the neighborhood without ever leaving the hotel doors.

The Room

Maximizing the eclectic style of this former-apartment hotel, New York design firm Roman & Williams has recreated a bohemian hotel utopia with select luxury amenities that keep boho artists and burgeoning fashionistas equally satiated. Small rooms are what you expect from a design hotel with queen-size beds and playful collection of room objects like record players and wall-mounted lockers. Loft rooms are the way to go for anyone looking for a bit of luxury with 4-person dining room and alcove living area with rocker sofas and in-room acoustic guitar. Cheap and bunkrooms are on the opposite spectrum, in frill-free spaces ideal for those on a budget and don’t mind rooms that are the size of most big-city hotel bathrooms.
