Boutique Hotel

If not yet familiar with the Lungarno Hotel Chain, operated by the Ferragamo fashion family, it's a name you'll want to become familiar with if traveling to Italy and looking for the best. Their latest hotel addition, they already operate hotels in Florence, is located in Rome along the Via Condotti near the Spanish Steps. The residential-style hotel occupies an ornate townhouse structure with only 14-rooms, but with as much attention to detail as a custom-made Ferragamo suit. Perhaps not coincidentally the hotel is located above the family's new Salvatore Ferragamo Man's Store, but with a separate entrance around the corner. Visitors enter through a discreet doorway and into a mezzanine reception elegantly decorated by Michele Bonan with Ferragamo-inspired furnishings. Guests looking for a lively lobby or buzzing hotel scene need look elsewhere, as this intimate mini-hotel is all about urban serenity. The loudest part of the hotel is actually the rooftop lounge with its crackling fireplace and honor bar overlooking the Spanish Steps, the Quirinale, and Monte Mario. Unfortunately the hotel features no pool and only offers fitness and sauna facilities within the penthouse "everyone else will have to make their way to the local gym for a day-pass.

The Room

If your expecting an emblem-filled guest room overflowing with designer references, like the Palazzo Versace or Bulgari Hotels, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the understated references. With its eight studios, five suites and one penthouse, the hotel aims to impress with style and refinement above overindulgent service and amenities. Each of the suites and studios feature separate living and sleeping spaces as well as bar/kitchenettes for drinks or small cooking. Designed by Interior Designer Michele Bönan, rooms feature pale-wooden floors with bright carpets and extravagant upholstery on oversized chairs and fur-trimmed sofas. Curtains are cut from silk-scarves while boar-skin table-lamp combinations add an element of exoticness. Walls feature subtle hints from the hotelier’s day job as a fashion designer, with murals of ornate heels as well as black-and-white photos of the family’s celebrity clientele since the ‘20s and ‘30s. Oversized bathrooms feature marble floors and sunken-bathtubs with separate stall-showers. Complimentary breakfast with market-fresh produce and Roman baked-goods is served daily, and promptly, within guest rooms or on the rooftop.
