Part of the Marunouchi commercial district just a short walk from the Tokyo Station is one of Tokyo's newest luxury properties led by Shangri-La hoteliers. One of their best signatures to date, Shangri-La occupies the upper 11 floors of a retail/office tower that first comes into view along the arm of its personal butler that meets and guides guests from train platform to front desk. Defined by 360-degree views of the upper Tokyo skyline, a lobby mixes oriental brocade rugs with tray ceiling and gilded seating arrangements that mix contemporary lines on more traditional upholstery and leather pieces. Two in-house eateries include the Japanese-style Nadaman and more formal Piacere overlooking the Imperial Gardens from a dramatic two-story dining room defined by whimsical rounded banquettes and wingback chairs. On the upper floor of the hotel is Level 29, a quaff health club open to guests and members with full-service spa, fitness center and indoor pool framed by the Tokyo skyline.
The Room
Perks of being on the upper levels of a new office tower are views that enwrap the entire Shangri-La property including from its most basic of entry-level guest rooms offering a mix of subtly upholstered walls, abstract fainting couch and small desk next to floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Imperial Garden. Leaning on dark, moody colors and undertones, rooms take on a more regal feel than its Park Hyatt or Ritz Carlton competition with upper level rooms like the Premier Bay offering extra wall of windows from its corner location and views of Tokyo Bay. The hotel is home to a series of Executive Level rooms that offer access to the Horizon concierge club with lounge facility and all-day cocktail and dining extension.
