Design Hotel

From the Mexico City-based owners of the Condeasa DF and Habita Hotel comes the first north of the border hotel stateside in New York's artsy Chelsea neighborhood. Adjacent to the new extension of the High Line elevated parkway, architect Enrique Norteh puts his glassy industrial signature on a 10-story high-rise that puts a modern architectural spin pegged towards Ace and Standard hotel society for a groovy urban getaway that continues the chain's many successes in Playa del Carmen and Acapulco.

A plethora of in-house services include outpost of Americano restaurant offering former-Daniel chef Olivier Reginensi in a Paris-meets-Poblano dining room of minimalist glamour flanked by 20-ft. walls of glass and outdoor patio. The lobby is home to an all-day coffee bar as well as access to the Americano Bar with its Sao Paulo styling and model-laden happy hour scene - in addition to a basement level lounge that's be reservation only. On the roof is the real jewel, however, with a rooftop scene called La Piscina with architectural lap pool and outdoor dining room and bar that doubles-down on the ubiquitous rooftop scene the hotelier offers at its Mexico City locations.

The Room

Habita continues its love for all things cool and minimal inside a series of three city view guest room categories. Rooms are lined in industrial concrete floors with built-in platform beds often contained in a cocoon of exotic wood facing open-style bathrooms captured behind a wall of glass. Not big on lux details, furnishings feel more utilitarian and style minded than comfort driven like the interiors of Standard’s LA editions from yesteryear. Room service ocmes in the form of pre-fixe Bento boxes available for all-day, and night, delivery. Where does Habita fit into NYC hospitality? Think a sexier, less-flannel version of Ace Hotel for people that find the Standard Hotel too trendy; loaded with all the Latin and South American models that now call the city home and already know the hotelier’s Mexico City hotspots like the Condessa rooftop oh-so-well.
