Gastro Hotel

Located above the most famous and fashionable restaurant on Rue St. Dominique in Paris's 7th, Hotel Thoumieux is co-owned by Thierry Costes who orchestrates a design-minded gastro-hotel along with designer India Madhavi. A convenient address for shopping and traipsing the Eiffel Tower gardens, the main floor of the hotel is home to the perennial La Brasserie Thoumieux while upstairs is the more formal Le Restaurant de Jean- François Piège. The upstairs eatery is accessed via a narrow but elegant staircase leading t a small salon with marble topped bar and main dining room. A bright and lively restaurant space is emboldened by bold, geometric pattern furnishings with a nod towards Paris's deco era along with standout installations of more modern mid-century pieces. Visitors should keep in mind that the location is first and foremost a popular eatery with services that are usually extended for guests of the hotel as well as the restaurant with minimal hotel services like effective concierge or all-night room service.

The Room

Most people, even Parisians, are surprised to know that there’s a 15-room boutique hotel attached to the famous brasserie Thoumieux. Even more impressive, rates hover in the EUR 250 range offering one of the 7th’s most affordable design hotel alternatives. Rooms are accessed through the man staircase that connects the hotel’s two room levels. Not for those looking for a quiet hotel experience, the bustling restaurant doesn’t simmer down till well past midnight on the weekends meaning that the compact rooms may require some earplugs. Rooms are not bashful in their design choices with fabric walls adorned with Louis XIV headboards opposite bold patterned curtains framing glossy white picture windows overlooking a rooftop or garden view. Heavy use of marble includes an ingenious countertop that extends from room to bathroom where is offer a countertop sinks and one very pretty shower area.
