Luxury Hotel

Rising above Columbus Circle on the southwestern edge of Central Park, Mandarin Oriental New York occupies a cluster of 20 stores on the upper level of the north tower of the Time Warner Center. New York's top, and most expensive, business hotel is also one of its newest that opened in 2003. Today, a dressy roster of guests continue to arrive via a high-speed elevator that opens to a grand reception with dark marble floors and minimalist reception desk connecting to a lobby lounge with walls of glass facing a skyline view. The décor updates Mandarin Oriental's traditional oriental classicism with elements of deco-influences and more modern upholstery throughout common areas. Bold artwork can be found throughout the hotel with oversize works by artist Valerio Adami in the lobby lounge and a glittery tree-sculpture on the ceiling of the Tony Chi-designed Asiate Restaurant on the 35th floor. The spa remains one of the best in the city and a popular destination for local and visitors alike offering 75-ft. lap pool and spectacular amethyst crystal steam room.

The Room

A total of 248 rooms with varying views of the city facing the Hudson River, Central Park or surrounding skyline maintain an urban sophistication that doesn’t get lost in Ming vases and chinoiserie patterns and instead utilized rich bronze, bursts of red and elaborate silk upholstery to express its Eastern flair. Entry-level King room are large in size, at just over 400-square feet with details like a surround sound home entertainment system. Premier Park Avenue rooms offer better views with stylish settees to comfortably take in the notable sights and suite-level accommodations like the Central Park View Suite that boasts separate living room and powder room for those looking for a bit more space. Design details could be a bit more personal, overall, with rooms that minus the view that lack that certain New York feeling and flaire.
