Design Hotel
It's opening transformed a once-derelict neighborhood into New York's latest boho borough now home to two of the city's top design hotels. The NoMad Hotel is a sultry, glamorous design statement by Hotel Costes designer Jacques Garcia and The Sydell Group - developers of the uber-successful Ace Hotel NY. Its name refers to that quirky hood north of Madison Square Park where this ornate landmark building rises above the area skyline just a block away from its Ace-sibbling. Visitors arrive to an imposing reception inspired by a forgotten design era sometime between Art Nouveau and Deco. Smaller than the Ace, the main entertaining at the hotel happens inside a series of parlor rooms trimmed in plush and tassel Garca-isms with imposing atrium and lounge where 3-star Michelin chef Daniel Humm presides over one of the hottest hotel eateries in town known simply as NoMad.
The Room
For luxury-lovers sometimes displaced by the utilitarian style of the Ace, NoMad is a welcome hotel alternative that’s a far smaller 168-rooms that includes an array of cozy classic kings to far grander Suite Royal that includes eclectic dining room and outdoor terrace large enough for entertaining. All categories feature reclaimed maple floors with vintage Heriz rugs and in-room clawfoot tubs that are a surprising amenity even in smaller room categories. Other standout amenities include Côté Bastide bath products, Sferra linens and gourmet mini-bars that make-up for lack of neighborhood eating options.
