Having made his mark in LA as the city's foremost nightlife conglomerate, Sam Nazarian and his SBE are bringing their SLS moniker to a prime corner stretch of beachfront formerly known as Ritz Plaza. More north than the typical South Beach faire of the Delano and Shore Club, SLS Miami comes with its own distinguished set of neighbors including the W South Beach and Soho Beach Club. A more polished look than its LA sibling yields a familiar of the Katsuya sushi eatery as well as a main dining room that brings culinary powerhouse Jose Andres to Miami with an outpost of acclaimed Bazaar that's the real reason anyone goes to LA's SLS in the first place. The hotel is also home to an edition of Hyde Lounge, the perennial LA VIP lounge, as well as Hyde Beach arranged in an uber stylish swimming pool space at the rear of the hotel with beach access. In terms of style think walls of drapery, bookshelves cluttered in thoughtful bric-a-brac and Murano chandeliers that these days feel more over duplicated boutique hotel than chic Italian where they came in the first place.
The Room
A fully updated series of beach and Intercostal-facing guest rooms offers a quintessential deco style and modern look retooled by the SLS brand and architect Philippe Starck. Inside virtually all guest room categories, that include inland and beach views, beveled rococo mirrors and Lois XIV prevails with more muted details that don’t include a prerequisite unicorn or giant-size golf-leaf chair. While entry-level rooms border on small, the boutique feel of the property and overall amenities make it a worthy competitor to the likes of the Delano, Mondrian and W Hotel but perhaps not the Soho Beach House or Setai.
