Hotel Type

Luxury Hotel

Opened in the late-19th Century as Le Grand Hotel by Cesar Ritz, the man behind the Ritz Paris, this opulent belle époque luxury palace maintains its luster over a century later as one of Rome's best hotels. What looks like a imperial palace from the outside flanked by Roman revival fountains on either side, a grand colonnade frames a formal entrance that leads to an extravagant lobby of gilded blonde wood paneling and ornate décor spaciously arranged atop shiny marble floors. Its dining room once overseen by Auguste Escoffier is now called Vivendo and offers gastronomic hotel cuisine that's one of the better offerings of any local hotel. The in-house bar is a hit attracting as mix of businessmen and occasional US celebrity on their Italian press-runs. Should you be able to peak into the hotel's ballroom, a fresco roof and antique mirrored walls is one of our most favorite spaces in the hotel.

The Room

St. Regis conducted an full overhaul of the hotel that included mixes original furnishings with newer Regency and Empire styles. The result is an over-the-top guest room experience with entry-level accommodations featuring period windows with neighborhood views and occasional wall fresco. Larger suites include a French 40s theme Designer Suite and even more impressive suite designed by Tomas Maier in 2007. The Bottega Veneta Suite offers one-bedroom layout with living area adorned in marble fireplace and an elevated aesthetic of leather-accented décor in cool, crisp colors.
