Hotel Type

Luxury Hotel

Along with iconic properties like the Cipriani and Bauer, Gritti Palace has long been one of Venice's most famous addresses. A former-renaissance palace that dates back to the 16th Century, Gritti spent most of the most last decades as a hospitality workhorse part of Starwood's prestigious Luxury Collection. Today, it's emerged from a much-heralded refurbishment that included all guest rooms and common areas captured within the buildings mythical brick façade and Moorish windows. Inside, a gilded grandeur prevails with iconic wood-paneled reception with inlay marble floors and ornate woven tapestry rugs. A grand hall etched in royal gold detailing features antique fixtures, ornate artwork and refined décor that didn't bend to more modern design trends. More improved, however, is the hotel's gastronomic offerings that include Club del Loge with its Venetian dining room and terrace as well as an affiliated epicurean school and showy Bar Longhi with its late-night cocktail scene.

The Room

A total of 82 guest rooms include 21 suites of impressive quality inspired by past guests like Hemingway, Ruskin and Peggy Guggenheim. Entry-level rooms are compact spaces facing interior alleyways of Venice with period windows lined in heavy, opulent drapery. Rooms feature a traditional Venetian décor by that includes pieces restored from the original property as well and reinterpreted antiques. Grand Canal views are offered from high room categories as well as suites with apartment-style layout and richer detailing. Bathrooms are lined in veiny marble with double vanities lines in Acqua di Parma toiletries that also headline the on-site Blue Mediterraneo Spa that’s immediately one of the best in Venice.
