Luxury Design Hotel
A midtown address isn't what we imagined for Viceroy New York, this trendy luxury brand that brings images of preening pools and Beverly Hills sunsets to mind. But alas the Cali-born brand long identified with designer Kelly Wearstler arrives to New York City with a new visual identity and upbeat address that invigorates the expanding brand with existing properties in Miami, Anguilla and Santa Monica. A gilded entrance of black and gold is well suited to uptown girls, equally swept away by the stunning lobby foyer that mixes butterflied marbles and crisp décor with pitch-perfect artwork with a deco undertone all meticulously curated by designers Roman and Williams. In-house accouterments include Kingside, a restaurant by Landmarc chef Marc Murphy and forthcoming The Roof that puts a gastro-pub spin on a elegant space of walnut accented leather sofas and natural landscapes.
The Room
A nearly 300-room property feels every inch a luxury New York hotel including in entry-level Superior Rooms that wow in their subtle details like leather inlays the color of warm caramel, walnut woodwork that looks like it came from the 1930s and mosaic tile bathrooms topped off with full-size Neil George spa products. Terrace rooms offer private outdoor space overlooking 57th Street while our favored Park Suite features views out and over Central Park. In terms of a spa, there’s a small indoor gym with plunge pool but any massage or body treatments will have to happen back in the room.
