Design Hotel

Opened in late-2013 and named after one of the most beloved chateaus of France's Louis XIV, The Marley occupies a commanding position above one of Cape Town's poshest beach enclaves. Part of a collection of boutique hotels and eateries that includes the Alphen and The Bungalow, The Marley is situated on the upper level of the Promenade within an undulated all-white structure overlooking one of the city's top beaches. Walking distance to several bar and restaurant hotspots, the entrance of the hotel is a beacon of Hollywood meets French regency design with parlor style lobby trimmed in virtual wainscoting, glossy white bookshelves and plush tufted banquette. Deeper exploration of the property reveals a pool terrace lined in lounger and outdoor dining area under a partially shaded courtyard. The property sits above an array of dining options including Zenzero and Paranga that are by the same owners, in addition to new Umi that's the fashionable in-house restaurant with Japanese dining room and lively lounge bar.

The Room

Smaller than it initially feels, The Marley is home to just 11 suites with address that competes with nearby POD for the luxury design crowd. The Marley is well connected to the area, given the owners established presence as top restaurateurs that allows guests to feel like insiders. Three room categories include mountain-facing suites in the quieter rear of the building with sleeping and lounge area as well as opulent white marble bathrooms adorned in Charlotte Rhys products. Sea-facing rooms include outdoor spaces terraced above the Promenade with seating or lounge arrangement. Interiors mix elements of posh urban design with leather-tufted settees, marble-topped tables and pop artwork. Top of the line Superior and Deluxe rooms come with added outdoor Jacuzzi and generous living rooms ideal for longer summer stays.
