Bouqtiue Hotel

Behind a quintessential brick façade along 8th Street in Greenwich Village, hotelier Sean MacPhearson creates a lively boutique hotel within a former long-stay residence privy to Jack Kerouac and Lenny Bruce. Today, visitors arrive to a lobby trimmed in oak paneling and cubist columns among a central staircase and with small lounge of mid-century tufted sofas, lime-leather club chairs and mirrored tabletops. Channeling its fabled literary past, Magaux restaurant is a fashionable hotbed of models in elaborate scarfs and men in skinny-short slacks enjoying a menu of Provincial bistro classics in a main dining room and atrium space that connects to a galley-style cocktail bar. There's also a charming espresso bar that's frequented by nearby residents and sleepy-eye guests. While hotel services are quite limited, there's no spa or gym, the location makes for enjoying nearby the amenities of the village with staff that can arrange everything from short-term fitness memberships to spa visits.

The Room

With tag phrases like “baby grand hotel” and ‘our rooms are small but our ideas are big’, most visitors are well aware of the small guest accommodations that come with equally compact price tags. Full rooms refer to bed size and offer well-designed details from mirrored-walls to Calder-inspired lighting but with dimensions that allow you to touch both room walls without getting out of bed. Larger Queen and Queen Deluxe categories offer a few more feet of square footage with bigger windows and slightly larger bathrooms that all share checkerboard floors and veiny marble trim.
