Luxury Hotel

You've sipped wine from their goblets and princesses have waltzed under their crystal chandeliers from St. Petersburg to Paris. Now, the 250-year-old French crystal maker debuts as a luxury hotelier with flagship property inside a glittery 50-story high-rise by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill that's aptly adjacent to NY's Museum of Modern Art. Inside, a parlor-style lobby and reception penned by Paris-based design duo Gilles & Boissie mixes vaulted ceilings with silver-leafed wood paneling and pleated-silk walls. The décor leans towards the formal, as marble slab tables sit in front of velvet-covered settees, glam chairs, white-slipcovered sofas and subtle leather sectionals. Artesian details from the curated art collection to signature Baccarat stemware created especially for the bar lend a bespoke feel that differentiates the hotel from the other luxury operators in the neighborhood. The in-house bar looks like it's been there for years with its checkerboard-painted wood floors, posh club chairs and rows of tiered crystal chandeliers that contrast with the more muted Chevalier eatery with its fine brasserie dining. In-house Spa de la Mer lends amenities like a glass-enclosed gym to marble-clad pool with its own assortment of crystal emblazoned details fit for urban royalty.

The Room

With a location convenient for shopping, theater and museums visits, Baccarat New York features 114 rooms and suites. Entry-level Classic Kings are surprisingly large and expectedly lush. Herringbone wood floors lend the feel of a private Parisian residence with floor to ceiling windows accented in sheer drapery. Four-poster canopy beds sit in front of a mirrored wall opposite small seating area with creamy-white sofa and slipcovered club chair. Details like alabaster bust, Baccarat crystal sconces and gallery-level art are even in the most basic of room categories. Beds are tucked with Mascioni linens while the white slab marble bathrooms are stocked with amenities from Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris. Grand Classic King rooms offer better views while suites including the Harcourt 2-Bedroom and Baccarat Suite bring a more space and bling - with all rooms outfitted in minibars stocked by Parisian gourmet shop Fauchon.
