For anyone that's visited Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives, Per Aquum is a familiar brand name offering over-the-top service and glam accommodations for those looking for a resort getaway. Now, the brand is expanding outside its known atolls and to destinations like Dubai where it occupies a 160-acre estate of pristine polo fields and spa indulgences 15-minutes from the city and airport. A fortified entrance with grand horse sculpture retreats to a sprawling lobby walled in glass with minimalist design narrative that takes on an modernist Arabian feel in its two on-site restaurants and polo bar that sits along the sprawling green equestrian field. The pool could disappoint �" but you may have a private one in your room to make up for it, as well as the fully landlocked location that seems counter intuitive to the brand's Maldivian roots. But its lavish UK-imported Lime Spa makes for a worthy sojourn away from the hectic pace of Dubai as well as the endless polo horses that are the lasting visual of a stay Per Aquum Desert Palm.
The Room
A low-flung architectural layout makes for fully private accommodations from even entry-level Palm Deluxe Rooms with their wide expanses of glass facing the Dubai skyline and resort pool deck. Larger Suites are even larger with more ideal views of the polo field while Pool Villas offer added perks like private plunge pools and large outdoor spaces for entertaining or just preening alone. Decor choices can distract the astute eye, with simplistic choices in smaller rooms and some private outdoor spaces but with artwork and sculptural pieces that add more of a personal brand narrative than you’ll find in most Dubai resorts. Ideal for a removed resort getaway, less so for taking in Dubai’s urban action given the 20-minute ride it will take to get there.
