Design Hotel

In terms of Palm Springs architecture, the pedigree of L'Horizon Resort couldn't be more legit. Penned by William F Cody as a posh weekend playground for a former-Hollywood exec, the hotel has been revamped preserving its protected silhouette whilst upgrading interiors to a modern almost-luxury aesthetic. Its location is a plus or minus depending on how you view downtown Palm Springs, however, many will find it perfectly removed away from the trinket stores and Indian casinos on the city's south end. A mountainous silhouette juxtaposes the all-white, elongated bungalows that make up the property - that's walking distance to Ace Hotel and lively Saguaro. Set along 3-acres of rolling lawns and desert landscaping, the property has no shortage of swimming pools including a new infinity-edge option and innumerous water features that help drown-out sounds of the busy thoroughfare on which it sits. The in-house eatery is one of the best in town providing service is up to par, cast within an outdoor dining room of fire pits and communal table offering an innovative menu by El Bulli alum.

The Room

About as luxurious a property as you will find in Palm Springs, 25 bungalow-style rooms dot the hotel grounds, and never more than a few steps from a swimming pool. Each mixes original features like block walls, rafter ceiling and copper fireplaces with geometric fabrics a bit overplayed in the desert but with pieces by Percival Lafer and George Mulhauser that make up for it in select rooms. Bathrooms contrast ceramic, molded tiles with Le Labo bath products and bronze fixtures ala Restoration Hardware that are the latest must-haves in the desert. The Dean & Delucca outfitted mini bar competes with the Parker as well as the sheets that are Frette Hotel Collection. While interior design choices are nothing we haven’t seen before, they a comfortable and welcome addition to the Palm Springs hotel market.
