For anyone familiar with Mexico City, Roma is a refuge of trendy bars and boutique shops popular with the city's under-40 set. Not the easiest location for hoteliers, however, La Valise has out-survived a few is a worthy exception. The property is captured within a period mansion along a shaded walking street. Visitors enjoy a mix of bespoke accommodations and lively lobby scene that's a welcome alternative to the chain hotel of Polanco and the often too-hip properties of Condesa. It's also home to it a curated hotel shop of house and fashion wares. The in-house eatery, Rosetta restaurant with its menu of regional Italian specialties, is listed in World's 50 Best Restaurant list and considered by many locals as one of the best in the city.

The Room

A series of bespoke suites dot the upper levels of this 20th Century residence infused with modern décor, local artwork and more traditional architectural features. One of the best small hotels in the city, tall and airy spaces defines period wood floors and large patios or terraces. Details like Nespresso machines and Baja Botanica bath amenities offer comfort s without losing that local flair. The top-of the-line La Terraza Suite features a remarkable outdoor sleeping option as the master bed features a railing system that transports it onto the terrace with a click of the button - meaning that an evening under the stars is only a matter or courage and weather permitting.
