Vik Hotels expands in Jose Igancio

September 26, 2013 11.05 AM

It was once the most ambitious luxury resort development in South America, namely the Setai Jose Ignacio that promised 6-star hotel decadence with affiliated beach club and villa residences. But then mid-construction the project came to a total standstill and ultimately became an abandoned eye sore along the highway leading to the village of Jose Igancio that left everyone wondering what would ultimately become of the quarter-built property. Alas, Vik Hotel that made a global name for themselves with Estancia Vik and the uber architectural Playa Vik have acquired the property, branded it Bahia Vik and placed it in its pedigree Vik Retreats label.

The location sits on the southern edge of Jose Igancio village along a premium strip of white sand all but deserted from development. The ten-acre property offers the thrill of morning horse rides along rolling, deserted dunes and series of bungalow-style rooms offering interiors accented in local artwork just a few steps from the sea. The property will also incorporate La Susana with its own fish grill and beach club-style architecture. The property was well in the process of construction before being halted; a few years ago we even attended a New Year’s Eve dinner with Francis Mallman inside the actual construction site. We are curious to see what Vik does and how this headline property comes together by one of the world’s top up-and-coming hoteliers. www.vikretreats.com
